AAS
Adventure Activity Standards A set of documents produced by the Outdoor Recreation Centre (Victoria) for several government departments. They purport to define minimum precautionary measures that should be taken by people who undertake recreation natural environments.

An association of outdoor enthusiasts established in 2004 to continue resistance to the AAS project and its supporters.

BSAR Bushwalker Search and Rescue The oldest active search and rescue body in Victoria. A committee of the Federation of Victorian Walking Clubs. Specialises in remote area lost person searching.
BMTAB Bush and Mountaincraft Training and Advisory Board For several decades the primary authority on mountain leadership and safety in Victoria. Publisher of the authoritative book on the subject. Recently closed its courses because of lack of government funding.
BMLC Bush and Mountaincraft Leadership Course Once the flagship course of the BMTAB.
CAV Camping Association of Victoria An industry association of businesses that run school camps and similar facilities.
DSR Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment Manages state forests (public timber reserves). Also manages national parks and other reserves through a division called Parks Victoria.
FVWC Federation of Victorian Walking Clubs An association of about forty walking clubs.
ORC Outdoor Recreation Centre (Victoria) Inc An association of the Ski touring Association of Victoria, the Camping Association of Victoria, the Victorian Outdoor Education Association of Victoria and the Federation of Victorian Walking Clubs as vehicle for pooling resources into a shared secretarial service. Changed its constitution to permit other activities in the mid 90s. In submissions to government describes itself as a peak body for all outdoor recreation associations and businesses in Victoria but is not generally recognised as such.
ORCA Outdoor Recreation Council of Australia Roughly an Australia wide equivalent of the ORC.
PV Parks Victoria Operates national parks in Victoria. A division of DSR.
SCORS Standing Committee on Recreation and Sport A committee of representatives of each state's department of sport.
SRV Victorian Department of Sport and Recreation Lead managing department for the AAS project

VOEA Victorian Outdoor Education Association A professional association of outdoor educators and instructors. Most members are from either the education or the commercial sectors.

VNPA Victorian National Parks Association An association of citizens who support national parks and the national parks concept.
