What is Adventure Victoria?

Adventure Victoria (Bush and Mountain Recreation Association of Victoria) Inc is a non-profit association which was formed in mid 2004 by a group of independent citizens who had for some time been lobbying Government to re-model the Adventure Activity Standards (AAS) project.

Is that all we do?

We formed primarily to continue lobbying, but we constituted in a way that leaves it open for us to take an ongoing advocacy role, now we know that the need is there. In fact, by mid 2005 we had already become active in a related matter of public interest (proposed licence conditions for public access to national parks) which had escaped attention from other recreation bodies, so our role is already expanding.

Who can join?

You can. We are constituted to take individuals and organisations, but right now our members are all individual bushwalkers, ski-tourers, climbers and paddlers. All of us are people who just like to visit the bush from time to time, whether hardy mountain travellers or casual walkers.

Who exactly are we?

At the time of inauguration, we were fifteen citizens with collectively about 300 years bushwalking experience, 100 years search and rescue experience, 250 years cross country or extreme skiing experience, significant experience in ice climbing, rockclimbing, rogaining, kayaking.  We also have significant experience in writing instructional publications related to these activities.

Since then we have attracted many new members who share our concerns.
